Graze Inn, Ecclesall Road

Judging the relatively newly-opened Graze Inn on Ecclesall Road from the decor alone, I wouldn't have expected anything less than a great night out. Luckily, I wasn't disappointed.

It looks original without being pretentious (loved the music scores used as wallpaper), although the combination of white walls and fluro lighting at the bar upon entering looked a bit out of sync with the rest of the restaurant. The logo was designed by Sheffield artist Lord Bunn, in an attempt to distinguish itself from some of the awful places on Eccy Road, putting it more in line with the more hipster-friendly Division Street. Although a part of the Thornbridge Brewery group, it does well to avoid feeling like a chain venue. Being a Saturday night, the place was packed, but we didn't wait too long for our food or drinks. The menu was so varied in its cusine that it seemed a little confused about what it was trying to sell itself as, from pasta and pizza (or 'Great British Flats' as they were cleverly branded, reiterating the locally sourced ingredients Graze Inn seems so proud of) to rotisserie chicken and even oriental dishes. Fortunately this meant there was plenty to choose from, the staff were knowledgeable about ingredients and seemed happy to cater for 'special' dietary requirements.

We started with 3 of their speciality sharing plates. They are advertised on the menu as being for 2 people, so we had to enquire as to whether they were meant to be starters or mains. We ended up with 3 between 7 of us, (a vegetarian Mediterranean one, a Chinese style platter of pancakes and a plate of cold meats) which was more than enough as a starter, but probably wouldn't satisfy you as a main. We also had some great cocktails, (the restaurant also has a separate bar area), and they had some more unusual concoctions as well as classics (wished we could have tried more!).  For the main I ate a Vietnamese noodle salad, which was a little boring but tasty nevertheless (my own fault for opting for a salad...), while the rest of us chose the 'British Flats'.

(Didn't quite look this impressive on arrival...)

This is a really nice stylish restaurant, perfect for special occasions and meals out, and I could see myself going just for drinks too. I'd definitely advise booking as it was rammed. The only complaint I'd have was the seating, which was a bit cramped and bench-like, which ruined the luxury atmosphere I think the place was trying to create. It was a lovely start to a great Saturday night out, which ended up involving far too much wine and a LOT of bad dancing...
